Where did I write that down?

They say a man with two watches, doesn't know what time it is. What do they say about a couple of travelers who have (at last count) seven journals on ten platforms to capture their experiences? One for vowels? One for small words? One for gargantuan words? Actually it is shaking out like this:

Warm Up and Journalistic ruminations - in SeƱor Moleskin
Future Pocket ruminations - in the Junior Moleskin
Solicitations and Opportunistic postings - all found at www.moonmountain.ca
Photo Experiments and Shakedown shots - in The Lab Book and Lightroom Catalog
To DoBuy list - on the sync'ed iPhones, iPad, & Cloud Notes
Reflections for Friends - right here in the Blog-o-Sphere
Miscellany and Pithy Quotes - nestled in Microsoft Word

Here is what they look like huddled together.

And here's that pithy quote you were curious about:

Would the boy you were be proud of the man you are? -Laurence J. Peter

What's going on?

In this second post I outline our purpose for this blog and in our new emerging venture. Our goal is to provide useful, fun insights and photographs to the travel adventurous older folks in the world. We plan to do this by publishing travelogues of interesting places. These will be delivered through a living process we are crafting and testing now. So our first trip is to Patagonia and Antarctica. We depart North America 23 January and return 21 February, 2017. The itinerary includes 10 days in Patagonia, 3 in Punta  Arenas (we hear the cemetery next to the Plaza is a top attraction), two weeks aboard the Hurtigruten Midnatsol exploring Antarctica and then back in Chile for 3 days in Santiago.

And you can watch it unfold. At the end of all this presumably you will have the opportunity to purchase our best selling travel guide and say you were there at the beginning.

Of course you want to study up for where you're going. Here is some of key resources for exploring the Deep South that we're using:

  • Torres del Paine Trekking  Topo Map 1:80,000 (waterproof) - This map shows walking, horse riding, and serious trekking trails. It also shows the condition of various roads in the park.
  • Patagonia infoMAP 1:2,750,000 (waterproof) - Our road map with all-important petrol stations marked. Independent travelers are greatly relieved when they know they can find fuel.
  • Torres del Paine: A Cicerone Guide - This publisher has over 300 walking, biking, and hiking guides. We found their guide to walking on the Amalfi Coast to be very useful and accurate.
  • TNT Beer - Courage in a can.

Finally,  I'm curious to make this interactive with topics you think we should cover or your responses to our venture. Kahsia and I are enjoying the idea of inventing and crafting this project into something where the journey and the destination are enjoyed by all of us. Without making too much effort please pass on your wisdom and witticism  to help shape and color the entire experience.

Moon Mountain Goes South

Woo Hoo!!!

Kahsia and I are excited to launch our new venture: Moon Mountain Independent Travel Guides. These guides are for people who have an adventurous spirit and just require a bit of advice and nudging to make their own travel adventure instead of being herded onto buses and led to venues of others' choosing. Our first guide will be directed to +55 travelers interested in exploring Patagonia and Antarctica. You can join us on our adventure south (book soon!), watch vicariously, or plan your own trip to the southern most latitudes.

This Blog is one part of a multi-faceted journaling and sharing tool kit to prepare and document ourselves in this experience for the beneficial (we hope) future use by travelers such as us. The blog will warm us up for the South as Kahsia sharpens her Canon chops and while I refresh my understanding of adverbs and past participles (not to mention fonts and text colors) in my musings. As the Independent Guides project unfolds this blog will similarly grow and engage. For tonight it is enough to share one of Kahsia's beautiful Vancouver skylines since she will need to deliver similar views of Santiago and Puerto Natalas.

As this is the inaugural posting, we don't want to bore you with too many of our lofty plans and ambitions - we will have plenty of time for that. :)

Welcome aboard. We look forward to chatting with you as we experience the joys of Independent Travel.
